Laparoscopy

The video - laparoscopic surgery (VLC ) , known as laparoscopy (LPS ) , from the " greek Lapara , " abdomen " , or even as laparoscopy , is a surgical technique that involves running an abdominal surgery without opening of the wall.

The VLC consists essentially in performing a surgery without performing a laparotomy , but instead using a camera connected to a monitor and thin surgical instruments ( forceps, scissors , electrocoagulation , stapler , needle holder , etc. . ) That are introduced through small holes made in the abdominal wall . To do this it is necessary , first , to introduce into the abdominal cavity gas (CO2 or nitrous oxide ) in order to create enough space to maneuver instruments .

Then the camera is introduced through a small umbilical incision , about an inch . Under visual control we introduce the other trocar through which surgical instruments are inserted real .

Surgeons watching a monitor, move the laparoscopic instruments outside of the abdomen of the patient.

Today were developed new tools " minilaparoscopici " with a diameter of 3mm which allow to make cutaneous access even smaller , further reducing the surgical invasiveness .

The advantages of this technique are many :

    less postoperative pain

    reduced complications

    best aesthetic result

    faster return home

more rapid return to perform normal work and social activities

    better quality of life

better understanding of the anatomy and therefore more accurate diagnosis and surgical

    maneuvers

Which gynecological surgery can be performed laparoscopically ?

Laparoscopy is usually recommended for two reasons: a more accurate diagnosis or surgical treatment.

As a diagnostic procedure , laparoscopy allows the doctor to look inside the abdomen , observe the reproductive organs , to determine the causes of abdominal- pelvic pain and recommend the appropriate treatment .

Currently with the laparoscopic technique can be performed virtually all gynecological surgery for both benign and for malignant disease unless there is a medical or surgical contraindication to this procedure .
